Maruti Suzuki no more developing smaller 660cc engine cars

Maruti Suzuki India will not move further with its plans of developing small cars such as Tata Nano as informed by the top official of the company.

The Chairman at Maruti Suzuki India Mr. RC Bhargawa said that the decision to abandon the new 660cc small cars was taken after considering the high production cost that will probably not make it possible.

But it is expected that the company will display the ‘Kei’ small cars in the 2012 Indian Auto Expo. The exhibition of Palette and MR Wagon small cars will take place with an intention to get the feedback of the car consumers. At the auto show the mini cars will be in their concept forms.
According to Mr. Bhargawa, the main idea to display these smaller engine capacity vehicles is to capture customer’s reaction, as these are vehicles with light weight aluminum engines which cost much more as compared to the smaller car engines. The general thinking of the people in the country is of smaller the engines lower the prices, which do not go with these ‘Kei’ cars, they are built on highly-developed platform and will therefore be priced higher, he added.

On the other hand, Tata Nano is not receiving any sort of overwhelming response among the consumers; hence it can be termed as a good decision by the company.

Maruti Suzuki India has many vehicles lined up to be showcased at 2012 Indian Auto Expo, which ranges from these small cars to mini-SUV along with Swift hatchback in hybrid variation.
